Questions Parents Ask

Have questions about our kids program? We’ve got answers.

What age can my child start?

We welcome kids as young as 4 years old! Our Little Kids program (ages 4-6) focuses on basic movements, games, and fun activities that build coordination. Our Kids & Teens program (ages 7-13) introduces more technique and partner work.

Do they need prior experience?

Not at all! Most of our kids start with zero martial arts experience. Our coaches are experts at introducing beginners to BJJ in a fun, non-intimidating way.

What should they wear to class?

For their first class, comfortable athletic clothing like shorts and a t-shirt is perfect. We'll help you with getting a gi (uniform) if your child decides to continue. There are no heavy equipment costs to get started.

How are classes structured?

Classes include a warm-up with games and movement drills, technique instruction broken into kid-friendly steps, partner practice with supervision, and cool-down activities. We teach all major BJJ positions and include gymnastics-based movements.

Is BJJ safe for kids?

Absolutely! BJJ is one of the safest martial arts for children. There's no striking involved, and our coaches emphasize control, safety, and respect. Kids learn at their own pace in a supervised environment.

How does the belt system work?

Children progress through the traditional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu ranking system. They earn stripes and belts as they grow in skill and confidence, advancing at their own pace. This gives kids clear goals to work toward.

Do you offer summer camps?

Yes! We offer kids summer camps featuring sports, games, crafts, and martial arts training. It's a great way for your child to stay active and have fun during the summer months.

Can parents watch the class?

Yes! Parents are welcome to watch from our viewing area. We find that kids often perform better when parents observe, and it's a great way to see their progress.
