Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions about our jiu-jitsu program? We’ve got answers.

Do I need jiu-jitsu experience?

Not at all. Our classes welcome complete beginners alongside experienced students, and coaches break techniques down step by step so you can learn at your own pace.

Should I train gi or no-gi?

We recommend training both if your schedule allows. Gi training builds grips, control, and patience, while no-gi develops speed, wrestling ties, and body-lock control.

What should I wear to class?

For no-gi, wear athletic shorts without pockets or zippers and a fitted t-shirt or rash guard. For gi classes, bring a BJJ gi if you already have one, or contact us and we will help you get started.

How are classes structured?

Classes usually include a warm-up, technique instruction, partner drilling, positional rounds, and live training. Beginners can train at a controlled pace while they build confidence.

Is jiu-jitsu safe?

Yes. Coaches emphasize controlled training, tapping early, and looking after your partners. You can choose your intensity level, especially when you are new.

What age range is the adult jiu-jitsu program for?

Our adult jiu-jitsu classes are for teens and adults 14+. Students of different ages, fitness levels, and experience levels train together in a supportive environment.

Can I compete?

Absolutely. Competition is optional, but students who want to compete can get help with strategy, rules, pacing, and focused rounds for tournament preparation.

How often should beginners train?

Two classes per week is a strong start. If you want to progress faster, unlimited training gives you more mat time across both gi and no-gi classes.
