Adult Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Questions

What beginners and experienced students should know about our Gi and No-Gi program.

Do I need jiu-jitsu experience?

Not at all. Our classes welcome complete beginners alongside experienced students, and coaches break techniques down step by step so you can learn at your own pace.

Should I train gi or no-gi?

We recommend training both if your schedule allows. Gi training builds grips, control, and patience, while no-gi develops speed, wrestling ties, and body-lock control.

What should I wear to class?

For no-gi, wear athletic shorts without pockets or zippers and a fitted t-shirt or rash guard. For gi classes, bring a BJJ gi if you already have one, or contact us and we will help you get started.

How are classes structured?

Classes usually include a warm-up, technique instruction, partner drilling, positional rounds, and live training. Beginners can train at a controlled pace while they build confidence.

Is jiu-jitsu safe?

Yes. Coaches emphasize controlled training, tapping early, and looking after your partners. You can choose your intensity level, especially when you are new.

What age range is the adult jiu-jitsu program for?

Our adult jiu-jitsu classes are for teens and adults 14+. Students of different ages, fitness levels, and experience levels train together in a supportive environment.

Can I compete?

Absolutely. Competition is optional, but students who want to compete can get help with strategy, rules, pacing, and focused rounds for tournament preparation.

How often should beginners train?

Two classes per week is a strong start. If you want to progress faster, unlimited training gives you more mat time across both gi and no-gi classes.

Adult Wrestling Questions

Learn what to expect from wrestling classes, equipment, safety, and competition training.

Do I need wrestling experience?

Not at all! Our classes welcome complete beginners alongside experienced wrestlers. Coaches break down every technique step by step, so you can learn at your own pace.

What should I wear to class?

Wear athletic shorts (no pockets or zippers) and a fitted t-shirt or rash guard. Wrestling shoes are welcome but not required—most students train barefoot.

How are classes structured?

Classes begin with a wrestling-specific warm-up, followed by technique instruction and drilling with a partner. Sessions finish with live wrestling rounds so you can apply what you've learned.

Is wrestling safe?

Yes. Our coaches emphasize proper technique, controlled drilling, and smart sparring. You always train at your own intensity level, and safety is our top priority.

What age range is the wrestling program for?

Our wrestling classes are for teens and adults (14+). We focus on creating a welcoming environment for all ages and fitness levels.

How does wrestling complement BJJ?

Wrestling and BJJ are a natural pairing. Wrestling gives you dominant takedowns, top pressure, and scrambling ability that dramatically improve your BJJ game—and vice versa.

Are there competition opportunities?

Absolutely. We support students who want to compete in wrestling tournaments and grappling competitions. Our coaches provide focused competition prep and guidance.

Can I drop in for a single class?

Yes! Your first week is free so you can experience the program with no commitment. After that, drop-in options are available—just reach out to us for details.

Kids Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Questions

Answers for families considering the Little Kids or Kids & Teens programs.

What age can my child start?

We welcome kids as young as 4 years old! Our Little Kids program (ages 4-6) focuses on basic movements, games, and fun activities that build coordination. Our Kids & Teens program (ages 7-13) introduces more technique and partner work.

Do they need prior experience?

Not at all! Most of our kids start with zero martial arts experience. Our coaches are experts at introducing beginners to BJJ in a fun, non-intimidating way.

What should they wear to class?

For their first class, comfortable athletic clothing like shorts and a t-shirt is perfect. We'll help you with getting a gi (uniform) if your child decides to continue. There are no heavy equipment costs to get started.

How are classes structured?

Classes include a warm-up with games and movement drills, technique instruction broken into kid-friendly steps, partner practice with supervision, and cool-down activities. We teach all major BJJ positions and include gymnastics-based movements.

Is BJJ safe for kids?

Absolutely! BJJ is one of the safest martial arts for children. There's no striking involved, and our coaches emphasize control, safety, and respect. Kids learn at their own pace in a supervised environment.

How does the belt system work?

Children progress through the traditional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu ranking system. They earn stripes and belts as they grow in skill and confidence, advancing at their own pace. This gives kids clear goals to work toward.

Do you offer summer camps?

Yes! We offer kids summer camps featuring sports, games, crafts, and martial arts training. It's a great way for your child to stay active and have fun during the summer months.

Can parents watch the class?

Yes! Parents are welcome to watch from our viewing area. We find that kids often perform better when parents observe, and it's a great way to see their progress.
